When asked about her name, Lola Collins will often role her eyes and blame her mother for 'trying to be different'. This short explanation sums up the vast majority of Lola's childhood, which consisted of Gail Collins trying to prove to the world (or at least Los Angeles and Hollywood) that her twin girls were superbabies. Decorated with ribbons and stuffed into frilly, lacy ensembles that were really only fit for china dolls, Lola and Belle starred in dozens of commercials for diapers, baby food and toys before they even celebrated their second birthday. In fact, their second birthday was spent on the set of a catalog photoshoot. Gail knew exactly how Hollywood worked: just a few short years before her babies came along, she'd been a part of it. A largely unsuccessful television actress, Gail's career had peaked with a daytime soap opera and crashed and burned in the early nineties. To console herself, Gail decided to try for a baby and was blessed with not one, but two little girls. They weren't identical but in their early years Lola and Belle looked enough alike to pass for it, and if there was one thing Hollywood valued it was twin babies.

The older Lola and Belle became, the more they rejected their mother's dreams of child stardom. They became uncooperative and disobedient on jobs until it became clear to everyone around them that they were unhappy and Gail had no choice but to retire her daughters, albeit reluctantly. This was possibly the first good decision she'd made for her girls, who could enjoy growing up and becoming teenagers in peace. They lived normally, with no cameras thrust in their faces and no expectations of parroting lines. As twins often are, the girls were extremely close and considered each other their best friends. Rebelling against all the fuss and primp of their childhood, both girls became tomboys in their adolescence and were more interested in bike racing and tree climbing than makeup and dolls.

For Lola, the love of being behind a camera hadn't completely faded. She was sixteen when she asked her mother if she could try again in the acting world one day and Gail was more than happy to oblige, eager for at least one of her daughters to find the success that she hadn't. When Lola was seventeen, Gail used her dwindling contact list to find her a small role in the TV show Cold Case. It was one episode and barely any screen time but it was enough for Lola to embrace that acting was in her blood; after the experience she was more eager than ever to find work.

Her first movie role would come as a surprise. Lola auditioned for the tiny role in The Blind Side and walked away as one of the main cast, filming the whole thing in a near-daze and unable to believe her good luck. Her next stroke of career-making history was scoring the role of Martha in Martha Marcy May Marlene, a role which earned her a slew of award nominations and even Oscar buzz at the age of twenty one. While Lola decided to skip out on college and pursue her career instead, Belle made the opposite decision and the twins were separated for the first time since they were born. Although Lola struggled, and continues to struggle, without the constant presence of her sister, she rationalizes that a little independence is more than likely a good thing.

Lola's name is frequently brought up in reference to rising stars nowadays. She diversified her resume by venturing into the world of video games in 2013, lauded for her performance as Ellie in the 2013 game The Last Of Us, and is set to star in a two heavy hitting movies in 2015 following an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2014's Birdman. Lola has come a long way from the toddler in the diaper commercials and intends to keep focused on her goals, navigating the sometimes treacherous paths of Hollywood as best she can.
